Game 107 Recap-
The New York Yankees used an 11 hit attack and jumped on a young Orioles starter, beating Baltimore,13-3 to salvage the final game of the 3 game series at Yankee Stadium Wednesday. Abreu, playing DH, had 3 hits(homer), 4 runs and 3 rbi, while 3b Alex Rodriquez had a homer and rbi, while new RF Xavier Nady added 2 rbi.
After the Orioles scored in the 1st via a Aubrey Huff rbi single, RH Dennis Sarfate, making his 1st ML start, had a rough night & some errors did not help. The Yankees scored 3 in the first with only 1 run earned, making it 3-1 New York. RF Nick Markakis drove in a run to make it 3-2 in the 3rd. However, Abreu answered with a 2 run to make it 5-2.Sarfate went another inning and was done at 68 pitches(39 strikes), he allowed 2 hits and 5 runs(3 earned) with 5 Ks and 3 walks. “I’ve seen him pitch better,” Orioles manager Dave Trembley said. “And when Sarfate came out of the game, our bullpen didn’t back him up.”
Yankees rookie, RH Joba Chamberlain(4-3,2.24( had no trouble at all, as he went 6 innings, allowing 5 hits and 2 runs(1 earned) with 6 Ks. The game got out of control for the Os with LH Brian Burres(7-7,5.64) and the rest of the bullpen got hit around. The Yankees used a 4 run 6th to go up 9-2. 1b Jason Giambi(single), Nady(double), Johnny Damon(bases loaded walk) and Nady(wild pitch) again had run producing plays. The Yankees added 4 more in the 7th when Abreu and A Rod homered, Nady and rookie Justin Christian added rbi singles. New Orioles SS Juan Castro homered in the 9th for the last run of the game.
Star of the Game-
Abreu- Not bad for a guy who does not like to DH,”I don’t really like too much the DH. It’s one of the ways to get a day off,” Abreu said, smiling. “I had a good day, but I don’t like the DH.”
Orioles Notes-
Yankees reliever Edwar Ramirez was ejected for throwing his first pitch at the head of 1b Kevin Millar, a known Yankee killer. This was viewed as retalation for Daniel Cabrera hitting Rodriquez Tuesday. “He intentionally threw it behind his head,” Wegner said of Ramirez. “It was a done deal.”Baltimore RP Alberto Castillo hit C Joe Molina in the 8th with no ejection…Markakis had 2 hits

AL MVP 3b Alex Rodriquez answered with a solo shot vs Cabrera in the 6th. The Os broke the game open in the 7th when Yankee trade acquisition LH Damaso Marte gave up a 3 run double to Huff and Mora followed with another double and a 7-1 Os lead.
Cabrera was outstanding, had his emotions in check. Over his 7 plus innings, he allowed 8 hits and 3 runs, while striking out 2 and walking 2. After a lead off double, he hit Rodriquez with his 1st pitch in the shoulder and was ejected immediately by home plate umpire Chad Fairchild. Manager Dave Trembley briefly argued to no avail. “I was surprised because the game was 6-1, nobody out, runner is at second,” Cabrera said. “How am I going to put somebody on base? So [it] surprised me.” Cabrera, in the past has had head hunters rep but has showed maturity in poise throughout ‘08. “I don’t know. You never know,” Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. “Daniel Cabrera is wild, but I don’t like it. He was down in the zone all night tonight and you just don’t like it. It’s happened a few times with this guy, Daniel Cabrera. We know at times he has some control issues but it’s just awful dangerous when you’re up there.” FUNNY- Its ok when Joba Chamberlain throws at the AL All Star First Baseman’s head 4 times!!!! People wonder why fans hate this team, they employed Roger ” I thought the bat was a ball” Clemens and call out head hunters?! They look great in 3rd place……
After all the noise, the Yankees got 2 runs off of rookie RH Jim Johnson(2-3,1.85) with 2b Robinson Cano knocking the runs with a single. Huff continued his big night taking sure fire hall of famer Mariano Rivera(26 saves,1.33) deep and a 7-3 score. The veteran RH Mussina had a tough time vs his former mates, this was the 1st start he has failed to go at least 6 innings since May 24. “For some of us, these guys are a tough matchup. They have some tough righties, which are a problem for me,” Mussina said. “They always seem to be scoring runs, especially when they play us.” Millar homered in the 2nd with 2 on and C Ramon Hernandez added a solo shot. In the 5th, CF Adam Jones tripled in a run & DH Aubrey Huff plated him with a sac fly. The Baltimore Orioles got a great start from LH Garrett Olson & 3 hits from backup C Guillermo Quiroz, helping them beat the Los Angeles Angels,5-2 Sunday at Camden Yards. The win avoids a series sweep by the Angels but more importantly, breaks a long losing streak on Sunday games since winning April 6th, going back 15 games.”No questions about Sunday. It’s done, it’s dead, put it to rest.” Baltimore Manager Dave Trembley said.
The Orioles jumped on Angels starter,RH Ervin Santana(11-5,3.57) early and had a 4-0 lead by the 3rd inning. RF Nick Markakis(double), Luke Scott(bases loaded hit by a pitch) and Quiroz(2 run single) collected rbi. The Angels scored single runs in the 4th(Vlad Guerrero ground out) and 7th(PH single by Garrett Anderson) for their runs. Quiroz added another rbi single in the 6th for the 5th Baltimore run.
Olson had been struggling over his last 4 starts(4.76 era to 6.11) but was tough Sunday. “I guess you could say I had a pretty bad streak there,” the rookie said. “The biggest thing for me is to make my pitches. You can’t afford to miss your spots that often or you’ll get in trouble.” He was excellent over 6 innings vs the best team in MLB. He allowed 7 hits and 2 runs with 2 walks and a K. A Heavy hearted Torii Hunter took out his grief on the Baltimore Orioles Saturday night, helping the Los Angeles Angels defeat the Os, 11-6 at Camden Yards. Popular CF Hunter, whose beloved Grandmother Edna Cobbs passed away Friday after a long illness Saturday, hit 2 homers, had 5 rbi and 4 runs scored. “She passed and she’s not worrying about too much pain or struggle right now,” Hunter said. “Whenever I come to the field, you know this is my safe haven. She always used to tell me, ‘Just have fun.’ … You kind of remember that, you go out there, just have fun and play the game.”
Angels RH Jon Garland(9-6,4.30) got the victory with some effort, over 5 1/3 innings, he allowed 7 hits and 5 runs while K-ing 3 and walking 2. 1b Casey Kotchman(2 run shot) and LF Juan Rivera(3 run shot) also homered for Los Angeles.
Rh Radhames Liz(4-3,7.47) struggled with his control all night and was gone by the 6th inning. Over 5 2/3 innings, he gave up 7 hits and 6 runs. He walked 4 and struck out 1. He threw 46 balls out of 102 pitches, “I would say his ball-strike ratio was not where it needs to be in order to put himself in a situation where he can pitch in some kind of comfort zone,” Orioles manager Dave Trembley said. “He was pitching behind a lot. Leadoff walks and two-out walks and those kinds of things have a way of catching up with you in a hurry.”
As the club has all season, the Os battled and scored some runs. DH Aubrey Huff hit a 3 run homer in the 1st for short lived Baltimore lead. LF Luke Scott hit a 2 run shot in the 6th and 2b Brian Roberts closed the scoring with a 9th inning sacrifice fly.
Star of the Game-
Hunter- One of the best good will ambassadors in the game put on a show playing with a lot of pain, “Torii’s been on an emotional roller coaster and I think it’s a great outlet for him to be able to play baseball,” Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. “It’ll probably be rough for him, too, next week with the services, but he’s focused on playing baseball.”
Orioles Notes-
Huff leads the Os with 63 RBI, Mora has 62… Hernandez & Huff both had 2 hits… Pregame, Manager Dave Trembley & pitching coach Rick Kranitz met with Club President Andy MacPhail to discuss the struggles of the young starters, LHs Garrett Olson & Brian Burres & RH Radhames Liz.

The Los Angeles Angels rode a 5-0 lead out and held on to beat the Baltimore Orioles, 6-5 Friday at Camden Yards. LH Joe Saunders, won his 13th game of the year (13-5), but had to battle for it. Over 6 2/3 innings he allowed 4 runs(3 earned) and 6 hits. He also struck out 2 and walked the same number.
Orioles LH SP Brian Burres(7-7,5.37) had a rough night from the get go, as the Angels jumped on him for 5 runs early. CF Torii Hunter doubled in 2 runs in the 1st & DH Juan Rivera homered in the 2nd for a 3-0 lead. 1b Casey Kotchman homered to right in the 2nd with a runner on and 2 batters later, Burres was in the shower. His stat line was not pretty- 1 2/3 innings, 7 hits & 5 earned runs with a walk and K.
As the Orioles have done all season, they rallied and showed character. 1b Kevin Millar homered in the 3rd. The Os bullpen kept the game close at 5-1 and Baltimore scored 3 in the 7th to chase Saunders. LF Jay Payton doubled in 2 runs and Luke Scott drew a bases loaded walk to make it 5-4. Angels RH Scot Shields(22 holds, 2.85) got thru the inning and the 8th as well.
With the Os within a run, long time Angel LF Garret Anderson drove in a huge run in the 8th with an rbi single. That gave ML saves leader Francisco Rodriquez(42 saves,2.14) a margin for error and it came in handy. With 2 outs, Millar hit his 2nd homer of the game. The Jays scored 2 in the 3rd with 2 rbi singles, one by 1b Lyle Overbay. Single runs followed in the 4th(RF Brad Wilkerson rbi single) & 5th(Overbay sac fly) to put the score at 4-0. C Greg Zaun’s 2 rbi single in the 6th chased Cabrera and the game was essentially over at 6-0. The clubs exchanged sacrifice flies for the final 7-1 score.
Store this Away… Cabrera has been on the downturn since June(0-3,7.06 era in 5 starts), if he does not find his early season self, this team has no shot at .500 with the pitching staff injuries and lack of depth. “It looked like he just didn’t have it today,” Orioles pitching coach Rick Kranitz said. “To me it looked like he was under some pitches, which means he was bringing the ball up. That’s tough to do, especially with a real aggressive club.”
Star of the Game-
Halladay- “He’s probably the best in the league,” Orioles manager Dave Trembley said. “He makes pitches when he has to and he’s got command of both sides of the plate. He’s exceptional.”

Game 94 Recap-
The Detroit Tigers, picked by many to be the AL representative in the World series, hit 3 home runs, helping them defeat the Baltimore Orioles 6-5 Thursday night in the 2nd half opener at Camden Yards in Maryland. DH Gary Sheffield, 3b Brandon Inge(2 run shot) & red hot LF Marcus Thames homered for the winners. Baltimore had 14 hits but was 4 for 11 with runners in scoring position, the Os have lost 8 of 9 and 9 straight one run decisions.
Young Orioles LH SP Garrett Olson(6-5,5.79) battled vs a solid Tigers batting order. Slumping and injury riddled DH Gary Sheffield homered in the 2nd with a runner on for a 2-0 Detroit lead. The Os rallied in the 2nd vs veteran Tigers LH Kenny Rogers(7-6,4.62) with 3b Melvin Mora(double) & C Ramon Hernandez(single) collecting rbi. The teams matched runs in the 3rd for a 3-3 score. Mora homered in the 4th for a brief Os lead.
Tigers 3b Brandon Inge hit a huge 2 run shot off of Olson with 2 outs in the 6th to make it 5-4 Detroit. Olson called it a night with 6 innings of work, 7 hits allowed & 5 runs against, he also walked 4 and struck out 5. Thames homered for an insurance run in the 7th vs RH Dennis Sarfate(4-1,3.45). The run became huge as the Os rallied vs shaky Tigers closer, veteran RH Todd Jones(4-0,4.82,17 saves). DH Aubrey Huff hit a deep drive to center for a sacrifice fly to make it 6-5. However, Jones got 1b Kevin Millar to ground out and get him in a close play at 1b for a 6-5 Tigers win.
Star of the Game-
Thames- 2 for 3, homer, double, walk,run,2 rbi plus the game winning hit
Orioles Notes-
Team is four games under .500(45-49) for the 1st time this season….CF Adam Jones has reached base in 17 consecutive games… Jones, Huff, Millar, Mora and LF Jay Payton all had 2 hits to lead the Os

Friday,7:05 Camden Yards
Orioles LH Jeremy Guthrie(5-7,3.49) vs Tigers RH Armando Galarrage(7-3,3.27)
The Orioles aren’t doing as poorly as usual, they’re just in the wrong division and that’ll preclude them from making a run at the playoffs. Still, it’d be nice if they could put together a nice second half so they have something to carry into 2009. They’ll kick things off against the underachieving Tigers at good old Oriole Park and I’m hoping to get down to a game. I hate the nose bleed seats and while the Orioles box office had some decent tickets, I found exactly what I was looking for after checking out a few baseball ticket brokers.
Baltimore Orioles cinderella story, LH George Sherrill(2-4,4.08, 28 saves) was one of the hidden stars Tuesday night(Wednesay Morning) at Yankee Stadium. The 1st time All Star pitched 2 1/3 innings of 1 hit ball with 2 Ks to help a strapped pitching staff continue the game, which the AL eventually won 4-3 in 13 innings. The 5 yr veteran of the Frontier and Northern baseball leagues, is a great example of what you can achieve when you don’t quit and continue to battle.
1st Half MVP-
2b Brian Roberts- Excellent 2b, 27 steals and an elite leadoff man, should have started the All Star game….2nd in MLB in Doubles, 3rd in triples… SIGN OF A GOOD TEAM- I considered 4-5 guys for this award
Breakthru Player-
LH Closer George Sherrill- Os all star representative is part of a tremendous trade by the Baltimore front office with Seattle for Eric Bedard. Excellent season with a bad 10 days in the 1st half,2-4,4.08 28 for 34 in save situations…43 Ks in 39 2/3 innings
2nd Half Projection-Thru 93 games, they are 45-48 and have had some major injuries in the pitching staff, start the 2nd season with an 11 game homestand… must leave Camden Yards 2-3 games over .500… I think they get to .500 or better to end the season, 83 wins … Tremendous job by Manager Dave Trembley and these players
Trade Bait-DH-1b-OF Aubrey Huff is having a great year(.284,18,59,.875 OPS) and should have been in the all star game for injured DH David Ortiz. He could make a contending team better… 1b Kevin Millar is another veteran with championship experience… Roberts’ name will come up but unless u offer a kings ransom, hard to see the Os trading him…OF Jay Payton is a great 4th OF and might be moved…Veteran RH RP Chad Bradford(2.70, 13 holds) might make sense for a team with bullpen needs but he has been great for Baltimore and with the rash of Os pitching injuries, can they afford to move him?
2nd Half Breakout Candidate
CF Adam Jones(.281,5,41)- Has had some strong games last 2-3 weeks, very good defense and has responded to hitting in the #2 hole

Game 93 Recap-
Boston SP RH Daisuke Matsuzaka(10-1,2.65) was strong for 6 scoreless innings and led the Red Sox to a 2-1 win over the Baltimore Orioles Sunday afternoon at Fenway Park. All Star RF JD Drew knocked in fellow All Star 2b Dustin Pedroia in the 1st and Boston never looked back.
Baltimore starter RH Daniel Cabrera(6-5,4.33) had control issues and that jacked up his pitch count. In the 5th he was at 105 pitches and toast, his stat line was 4 1/3 innings, 6 hits, 2 runs(1 earned) with 6 walks and 2 Ks.”He competed today and did not give in,” Orioles manager Dave Trembley said. “This is a tough one to lose. We needed one hit, one pitch a little different, but we played our hearts out.”The 2nd Boston run scored in the 4th via a fielders choice.
The story of this game was plain and simply Matsuzaka. Over 6 innings, he allowed 4 hits with 5 walks and struck out 7. He helped himself with a nice fielding play on a Melvin Mora drive in the 5th to avoid any damage with the bases loaded. “When he locates, he’s as good as there is,” Red Sox Manager Terry Francona said. “He created some jams for himself, but fortunately they did not string together a couple of hits.”
The excellent Red Sox bullpen took over with LH Hideki Okajima(2-2,2.82,17 holds) pitching 2/3rds, RH Manny Delcarmen(0-2,4.54,13 holds) another inning and a third with 2 strikeouts. Boston All Star Closer Jonathan Papelbon (3-3,2.43,28 saves) made it interesting in the 9th with 3 hits and a run allowed, but he got Mora to line out and end the game.
Star of the Game-
Dice K- How is he not in the All Star game? He should be starting it!
Orioles Notes-
The loss was the 14th consecutive on Sundays!!!!….. Rookie SS Freddie Bynum got the start and was 0 for 3…. Team had 7 hits(all singles), 2 apiece from 2b Brian Roberts, CF Adam Jones & 1b Aubrey Huff(rbi as well, LF Jay Payton had the other hit
All Star break-
Closer LH George Sherrill(0-2,4.08,28 saves) the lone Os representative, game is Tuesday at 8 pm, Yankee Stadium
Game 92 Recap-
Veteran RH SP Tim Wakefield was outstanding and 1b Kevin Youkilis’ grand slam hilighted a 7 run 3rd, helping the Boston Red Sox blow out the Baltimore Orioles, 12-1 Saturday Night at Fenway Park. OFs JD Drew and Manny Ramirez homered in the 1st to get the Boston offense going and they never looked back.
Rh SP Radhames Liz(3-2,7.57) saw the best of the Red Sox offense and was gone by the 4th. Over 2 1/3 innings, he gave up 6 hits and 8 runs, while striking out 2 and walking 3. The 3rd inning was key as a bases loaded walk to 3b Mike Lowell, Youkilis’ 1st career grand slam and a 2 run double by 2b Dustin Pedroia gave Boston 7 runs and a 9-1 lead.
The veteran Wakefield(6-6,3.60) was outstanding, over his 7 innings, he allowed 2 hits and 1 run(3rd inning homer to C Ramon Hernandez) with 6 Ks and 1 walk. “Everything’s been clicking for me,” Wakefield said after pitching seven innings of two-hit ball to take advantage of another offensive outburst and beat Baltimore 12-1 on Saturday night. “I don’t want to change anything. I’ve been on a run and hopefully I can keep doing that.”
“He’s the most underrated pitcher I think there is in the big leagues,” former teammate Kevin Millar said. “You’ve just got to stop the bleeding. We were down by a lot of runs early and Wakefield was throwing strikes.”
Star of the Game-
Wakefield— Great human being and very underrated pitcher in a big market. Takes the ball in any and all circumstances.
Orioles Notes-
RF Nick Markakis recorded his 9th assist in the 2nd…. Os had 3 hits…Orioles Manager Dave Trembley was ejected in the 7th for arguing balls and strikes
Next Game-

Game 91 Recap-
2b Brian Roberts doubled to lead off the game and LH SP Brian Burres was outstanding, helping the Baltimore Orioles deal the Boston Red Sox a rare home defeat,7-3. Roberts(WHO SHOULD BE IN THE ALL STAR GAME!)was 3 for with 2 runs and 1 rbi, missed the cycle by a home run. Burres(7-5,5.02) gave the club a much needed lift with 6 1/3 innings of 6 hit ball. He allowed 3 runs with 3 walks and 2 strikeouts.
Red Sox starter, RH Clay Bucholz(2-4,5.70) was facing the Os for the 1st time since no hitting the club in his 2nd career start last September. He was however making his 1st start since a DL stint dealing with a finger nail injury & also doing some mechanical revisions in the minors. Roberts set the tone with his double and Baltimore scored 2 in the 1st to set the tone. “That’s a long time ago. That’s over and done with,” Roberts said. “You certainly want to get off to a good start, whether it’s Roger Clemens or Buchholz or whoever. But Burres was the star of the game. He pitched really well and gave us what we needed. To pitch 6 1/3 here, that’s pretty good.”
The Os jumped on Bucholz rustiness in the 1st with CF Adam Jones(sacrifice fly) and 3b Melvin Mora(single) getting rbi to make it 2-0. Boston tied in the 2nd with OF Brandon Moss(single) & SS Julio Lugo(groundout) plating runs. Lugo put the Sox up 3-2 in the 4th with another ground out. However, Baltimore took the lead back for good in the 5th with Roberts tripling in a run and DH Aubrey Huff scoring him with a sacrifice fly.
Baltimore scored 3 more tack on runs in the 8th and 9th, which was HUGE as Boston is the best come from behind team in MLB. Rookie SS Brandon Fahey(2-4,1 run) drove in 2 out of the 9 hole with an rbi single. Mora drove in the final run in the 9th with a sac fly to make it 7-3. Boston rallied in the 9th with 2 outs via an infield single, error and walk. Closer George Sherrill(2-4,4.08) then struck out starting AL All Star 1b Kevin Youkilis(314-14-57) to secure a gutty win & earn his 28th save.
Star of the Game-
Burres- Nominated by Roberts, He wins!!!
Orioles Notes-
Roberts 3 hits led the team…Red Sox did not get breaks at home tonight, a fan intefered with a ball that would have scored a run in the 2nd & Lugo appeared to beat out a infield hit in the same inning but was incorrectly called out…Rare home loss by Sox, 34-11 at Fenway, tremendous job by Os

The Toronto Blue Jays rallied for 2 runs in the 9th, to beat the slumping Baltimore Orioles 6-5 Thursday Night at Rogers Center. Os closer George Sherrill(2-4,4.12, 27 saves) started the 9th with a strike out but a single and double followed. After an intentional walk, 1b Lyle Overbay hit a sacrifice fly to center to tie the game at 5. LF Adam Lind then hit a drive to rightfield to score the winning run and give the Os another crushing loss, their 5th in a row.
Sherrill has been tremendous as a 1st year closer, but this was his 6th blown save and 3rd in 5 appearances. “They jumped on first pitches a lot,” Sherrill said. “I was just trying to get ahead and they got some pretty good pitches to hit.”
The loss spoiled another great outing by LH Jeremy Guthrie(5-7,3.49) who has become the hard luck starter for the 2008 Baltimore Orioles. He pitched 7 strong, allowing 4 hits & 2 runs(1 earned) with 3 Ks and a walk. Rookie flame thrower Jim Johnson(2-3,2.13,14 holds) was not his usual dominant self in the 8th allowing two hits to lead off the 8th. Johnson settled down but allowed two runs to score on ground outs.
The Os scored 3 runs early vs ex Oriole John Parrish(1-0,2.77) with a single run in the 1st(1b Aubrey Huff single) & 2 in the 2nd(LF Jay Payton double and SS Brian Fahey ground out). Parrish pitched well, going 7 innings while giving up 6 hits & 3 runs. He struck out 3 and walked 2. Toronto scored 2 runs for the young starter in the 4th(ground out) & 6th(another ground out) to make it 3-2.

Game 89 Recap-
Blue Jays starter, RH AJ Burnett(9-8,5.23), who had an emergency root canal late night Tuesday, showed a lot of guts and helped Toronto beat the Baltimore Orioles, 9-8 Wednesday at Rogers Center in Canada. Over 5 1/3, he allowed 7 hits and 7 runs with 3 walks and 7 Ks. “I made an emergency call last night and had a root canal at 10:30 p.m. and then a filling at 9:00 a.m. this morning, so I was all numbed up for a while,” Burnett said. “It wore off in time, luckily, but it didn’t bother me at all.”
Os LH Garrett Olson(6-4,5.65) had a tough night and did not make it out of the 4th inning. Over 3 2/3 innings, he allowed 7 hits & 7 runs with 4 walks and 2 strike outs. After a 1st inning run from Baltimore 1b Kevin Millar rbi, the Jays chased younf Olson in the 4th with a 6 run explosion. A bases loaded walk, 3 infield singles and a 2 run double from SS David Eckstein accounted for the runs.
After Toronto added another run in the 5th to make it 8-1, the Orioles rallied, as they have all season. 3b Melvin Mora plated 2 with an rbi single, C Ramon Hernandez followed with his own run scoring single. The big blow came from improving CF Adam Jones, whose 3 run homer to left made it 8-7 Toronto.
The game settled down and the Jays pen shut the Os down for 2 2/3 innings. The Jays pushed the lead back to 2 runs when 3b Scott Rolen singled in a run in the 6th. Toronto closer BJ Ryan alllowed a homer to RF Nick Markakis but retired Millar for the final out to get his 17th save and the 2nd consecutive Jays win in this 3 game series.
Star of the Game-
Burnett- In a sport when guys miss games for sleeping and bruising eyebrows, he could have packed it in but he didn’t. He never considered missing his start,”I was going to do it this morning and still pitch,” Burnett said. “That’s just my tooth. I don’t need that to throw.”
Orioles Notes-

Game 88 Recap-
Rookie SS Freddie Bynum allowed a ball to go thru his legs & the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Baltimore Orioles,7-6 at Rogers Center in Canada. The misplay capped a tough night for the Os as they blew a 4 run lead over the final 3 innings, “These are the kind of games you can’t lose,” C Ramon Hernandez said. “It’s really hard to lose a game when you’re winning going into the seventh by four or five runs.”
RH SP Daniel Cabera(6-4,4.40) pitched a strong game and went 6+ innings( 6 1/3, 6 hits,4 runs, 4 walks and 3 Ks). DH Aubrey Huff homered in the 1st but Jays CF Vernon Wells answered with an rbi single. The Os scored 2 more in the 3rd with a Huff sacrifice fly & run scoring wild pitch. Jays RH Dustin McGowan(6-7,4.37) was lifted with shoulder pain after 4 innings, he allowed 4 hits & 4 runs(2 earned) with 1 walk and 2 Ks.
The teams exchanged runs in the 4th and the Os maintained a 4-2 lead. Os RF Nick Markakis added 2 more runs with an rbi single and it was 6-2. However, Jays RF Alexis Rios tripled in 3 runs off of new 7th inning man RH Dennis Sarfate(3.60). Wells then plated Rios with an infield hit. Rios walked to lead off the 9th and stole 2nd. After a walk, 3b Scott Rolen hit a ball at Bynum and the youngster misplayed the drive for the winning run.
Star of the Game-
Rios- HUGE triple and winning run
Orioles Notes-
LHP Adam Loewen was placed on the DL with a reinjured left elbow, 33 yr old rookie LH Alberto Castillo was recalled. Loewen’s surgically repaired elbow has cracked and he will consult doctors before his next move….Bynum entered the game as a defensive replacement for Brendan Fahey, who was pinch hit for in the 9th… Markakis paced the team with 2 hits, he also extended his hitting streak to 15 games
Store this away….
Bynum is a tough kid and will be a good player, this is part of the process! Derek Jeter lost a game his rookie season in NYY with an error and it was all over the tabloids -front and back! Tough loss but this play was one of many that lost it. If the 2008 Os lose games because we depend on a kid SS, then others are not getting it done!

Roberts plays a tough position with several strong AL 2b , The 7 yr veteran was beat out in the balloting by Red Sox Dustin Pedroia and Texas Rangers 2b Ian Kinsler was also selected. Vote at mlb.com to add Brian! I am a Red Sox fan by home region, however, Brian deserved to go over Pedroia! VOTE!!! DH Aubrey Huff should also be in this game, Big Papi is hurt and Huff has had a great 1st half!
Game 87 Recap-
The Baltimore Orioles came up one big hit short in a wild and crazy game, losing 11-10 to the Texas Rangers Sunday at Camden Yards. The big blow of the game was a 3 run homer when it was tied 3-3 by Rangers RF David Murphy off of Os RH Radhames Liz(3-1,5.94) in the 4th. Rangers veteran Rh Kevin Millwood(6-4,4.93)got the win and worked for it, over 5 innings, he allowed 9 hits and 5 runs(3 earned) with 2 Ks.

In the 4th, after an rbi single, Murphy’s big homer chased Liz and made it 6-3.
The Os got within 2 on a ground out by C Ramon Hernandez in the 5th. However, Texas exploded for 5 big runs in the 8th, scoring 3 runs on a sacrifice fly, ground out and bases loaded walk. Rookie 3b German Duran capped the frame with a huge2 run single. It was 11-5 Texas.
Baltimore is not the most talented or highest paid team in MLB but they scratch, claw and fight for 9 innings and 27 outs. Today was a fine example. Down by 6 in the 8th, RF Nick Markakis hit a 3 run homer to make it 11-8 in the 8th. Texas closer C.J Wilson(0-2,4.70) started the 9th allowing a tremendous home run to left center to pull within 2. PH Melvin Mora then homered to center and it was a ONE RUN GAME!!! However, Wilson buckled down and struck out Roberts to end the game and a wild afternoon.

Game 84 Recap-
The Kansas City Royals used a 7 run 6th inning to offset a big Baltimore uprising in the 4th, helping them beat the Orioles 10-7 Thursday night at Camden Yards. The Royals plated 7 runs 0ff of 3 pitchers via 6 hits and 1 HUGE error, while batting around. The Os scored 5 in the 4th, hi-lighted by back to back triples by CF Adam Jones and SS Brian Fahey. DH Aubrey Huff homered twice(3rd in the series) and had 4 rbi in the losing cause.
Neither started had much success tonight, as Os starter, LH Garrett Olson(6-3,5.04) had some early issues with homers as SS Tony Pena(1st inning) and DH Billy Butler(2nd) touched the youngster for homers, LF Jose Guillen(serious all star candidate) singled in another run for a 3-0 lead in the 2nd.
The Os bats came alive in the 4th with a 5 run rally. KC RH SP Kyle Davies(3-1,4.71) was breezing along and then got has hat handed to him. Huff homered for a 3-1 score. Melvin Mora singled in the 2nd run then we had the back to back triples producing 3 runs. Davies started the 5th and Huff got him again for a 2 run shot, ending the Royals’ starters night. His final stat line reads 4 innings +, 8 hits, 7 earned runs, 1 walk and 4 Ks.
The Royals then exploded- and then some-in the 6th. After a walk and double, Olson got a big strike out. However, 1b Kevin Millar’s error extended the inning. New reliever LH Adam Loewen(0-2,8.41) entered the game and was lit up. He gave up rbi singles to 1b Ross Gload and CF David Dejesus, quickly making it 7-6 Os. RH Chad Bradford(2.87) entered the game with allowed the final 4 runs. 2b Mark Grudzielanek & Guillen added rbi singles around a sacrifice fly by 3b Alex Gordon. The damage was done and it was 10-7 KC. The Os did not get a hit or reach base the rest of the game vs an outstanding KC relief unit.
Star of the Game-
Royals pen- Strange award in a game with 17 runs but three Royals relievers allowed 1 hit over 5 innings with 6 Ks, led by scary good closer RH Joakim Soria’s 23rd save.
Orioles Notes-
Team is over a million in attendance…Huff had 3 of the teams 9 hits to lead the team… rumors and reports have the club pursuing Toronto Blue Jays SS David Eckstein, to fill the club’s Bermuda Triangle position! … Back to back triples for the 1st time since August 2000

Game 83 Recap-
RH SP Daniel Cabrera won for the 1st time since May 20th and 1b Aubrey Huff homered, leading the Baltimore Orioles to a 5-2 victory over the Kansas City Royals at Camden Yards Wednesday night. The win allows the Os to take 2 of the first three in the series and has them at a pleasantly surprising 43-40.
Cabrera was plain and simply the story of this game, on a night when his team needed a long outing, he pitched a complete game and used only 105 pitches. After a very tough June in which he did not get past the 7th inning, had a 7.06 era while going 0-3, July looks more promising, after a complete game 7 hitter with 2 runs allowed and 2 Ks. Plus no walks! Cabrera was excited post game,”It’s great. It’s a new month,” Cabrera said. “It’s good to have a good game. It’s been a long time since I had one like that.”
Cabrera allowed a home run in the 1st as CF David DeJesus led off the game with a solo shot. Huff answered with a 2 run shot in the bottom of the inning. A ground out double play in then 2nd plated the final KC run. In the home 3rd, DH Luke Scott singled in a run for a 3-2 score. In the 5th, RF Nick Markakis tripled to put the lead at two, 4-2. C Ramon Hernandez followed with a single scoring Markakis.
Royals starter, veteran RH Gil Meche(6-9,4.74), was not bad, he just pitched on a bad night and against the wrong guy. Meche went 6 while allowing 9 hits and 5 runs.(4 earned) He walked 2 and struck out none. DeJesus had 3 of the Royals 7 hits to lead the team.
Star of the Game-
Cabrera- Let his Manager, Dave Trembley sum it up, “Well, you’re probably not going to see Cabrera pitch any better than he did tonight,” Trembley said. “He had command. He got groundballs and he got great defense behind him. His poise was outstanding.”
Orioles Notes-
Cabrera is 5-0 with a 2.21 era in 8 career starts vs the Royals, Os are 8-0 in those games…. Hernandez led the team with 3 hits… RHP Matt Albers(3-3,3.49) has decided to rehab his injured right shoulder rather than face surgery. “I’m still optimistic I’ll be able to pitch this year,” Albers said last week. “I don’t really want to have surgery. I don’t think anyone really wants to.” The Os front office was pleased with the news, “This was the course that both our orthopedic doctor and Dr. Andrews thought was the proper course,” said Andy MacPhail, the team president for baseball operations. “It’s the course that Matt believes is the right course, so it’s the course we take.”
