Orioles Top Ten Prospects

by @ 8:00 am. Filed under 2011 Orioles

The Baltimore Orioles helped Baseball America kick off the prospect list season yesterday with their list of top ten Orioles prospects.  The Orioles have been bad for a while, but their second half has me encouraged.  There’s a lot of young talent and a Rays-like move in the next year or two isn’t out of the question if front office does a good job of filling in some of the blanks.

Coming in at number is the Orioles top pick in 2010, shortstop Manny Machado.  He’s only 18 so he has a ways to go but he had a good showing at Abderdeen in 29 at bats.  Zach Britton comes in at number two and he’s ready for the bigs.  Xavier Avery is third and he’s knocking on the door too.  About half of the guys on the list have played at Double-A or higher last season so the Orioles could be poised for a breakthrough.
