Orioles Play Spoiler, Eliminate Red Sox From Playoffs

by @ 11:04 pm. Filed under 2011 Orioles

What a crazy day.  The Red Sox had the lead for most of the second half of their game against the Orioles and they needed it to force a one game playoff against the Rays.  Then the Orioles rallied in the ninth and in the blink of an eye, the Red Sox playoff chances were done.

Things went well at first when Jon Papelbon  struck out the first two hitters.  The Chris Davis doubled and Nolan Reimold followed that up with a ground rule double to tie up the game.  Then Robert Andino got his first hit of the day and he drove home Reimold with a single to win it.  It was a crazy part of a crazy day.

There was also that rain delay that had to be tough for the Red Sox.  They got to sit and watch the Rays come back from six down late in their game against the Yankees.  It was one of the best days baseball has had in a while and it was nice to see the Orioles were a part of it.
