Game 140 Recap-
The Oakland A’s punished the Baltimore Orioles bullpen for 8 runs in the decisive 8th, leading the way to a 11-2 victory Friday night at Mcafee stadium in Oakland. DH Rajai Davis’ grand slam highlighted the inning, while 1b Daric Barton had 3 walks and 2 runs. 3b Jack Hannahan added a hit, 2 runs, 2 walks and 2 rbi for the As. Rookie LH Dallas Braden(5-3,3.72) got the win with 5 good innings.
Orioles rooke LH Chris Water(2-2,5.40) did not pitch poorly- 5 1/3 innings, 5 hits, 3 runs with 3 walks and 2 Ks. Baltimore totaled 6 hits and had 2 walks as well. LF Lou Montanez had a run and rbi while 2b Brian Roberts drove in the other run.
This game turned in the 8th when Baltimore used 3 different pitchers who walked 6 batters- 4 with the bases loaded- and hit another batter. RH Randor Bierd(3.69) then gave up Davis’ huge homer. The amazing part of this inning? Davis entered the game as pinch runner for slow footed DH Jack Cust EARLIER in the inning. “To be honest with you, I’ve never seen an inning like that. Ever,” said Orioles manager Dave Trembley, who earlier in the day was told he would return for the 2009 season.
