Big Contracts May Keep Orioles On Sideline

by @ 11:19 am. Filed under 2008 Orioles

In an ongoing analysis by Yahoo.com’s Tim Brown, the Orioles were examined from a free agent perspective and while the team definitely has their share of holes, it’ll be those big contracts they’ve agreed to the past couple of years that might mean they’ll have to settle for more second tier guys.

Brown realizes (as we all do as well), that the Orioles can’t be rebuilt in day so he expects them to try to dump some of their bigger names for some future talent.  Whether they can get it done or not is another question but a guy like Miguel Tejada should command some value out on the open market.  He anticipates at the end of the column that the Orioles are probably three years away from really doing much because that’s when some of those big salaries start coming off of the book.
