Game 70 Recap-
Veteran 1b and leader Kevin Millar singled in 3b Melvin Mora for the decisive run, helping the Baltimore Orioles beat the Houston Astros 2-1 in 10 innings Wednesday at Camden Yards in Maryland. In a game where both teams pitched great and played solid defense, each club plated runs on solo home runs in the 7th for the 1st 9 innings.
Os LH Jeremy Guthrie(3-7,3.51) continued his tough luck season with a great performance over 8 innings, only allowing 3 hits & 1 run with 8 Ks and 1 walk. Astros veteran RH Brian Moehler(3-3,4.35) worked into the 7th, going 6 1/3 innings, giving up 6 hits with 1 run plus 4 strikeouts and 2 walks. Each pitchers only mistake resulted in a solo shot as Os LF Luke Scott(#12) and Astros 1b Lance Berkman(#20) connected.
The Orioles winning rally in the 10th started with a ground out. 3b Melvin Mora then singled off of ‘Stros closer Jose Valverde(2-2,16 saves,3.71). As ex Os SS Miguel Tejada broke to cover for the steal, Aubrey Huff singled towards the hole and Mora took 3rd. Millar followed with a single to center, making a winner out of veteran RH Chad Bradford(2-2,2.25).
Baltimore has now played 4 consecutive 1 run games, winning 3. “It’s one of those things right now,” Millar said. “You don’t want to make a living doing that. We’re just going through a stage where every game’s a battle, every game’s a dogfight.”
