Game 95 Recap-
Orioles LF Luke Scott led the charge with 2 home runs as Baltimore hit 4 homers total,helping them beat the Detroit Tigers 7-4 Friday at Camden Yards. The Os, outhit 14 to 9, also got homers from 3b Melvin Mora and DH Aubrey Huff. The difference? Tigers went for 4 for 15 with runners in scoring position and hit into 3 double plays. “When you get 14 hits,” Tigers manager Jim Leyland said, “you’re supposed to get more than four runs.”
Baltimore starter, hard luck RH Jeremy Guthrie(6-7, 3.60) finally got some run support and his 6th win. Over 6 innings, he allowed 12 hits & 4 runs while striking out 5 with 2 walks. He gave up runs in the 2nd(C Pudge Rodriquez 2 run homer) & 4th(fielders choice and CF Curtis Granderson’s rbi double) for the Tigers totals. Tigers starter, RH Armando Galarraga(7-4,3.41) did not pitch badly, he just paid for mistakes. RF Nick Markakis doubled in a run in the 1st, Scott(2nd) and Huff(3rd) followed with homers in back to back innings. Mora’s 2 run homer in the 6th put the Os up for good at 5-4.
The O’s pen excelled in this affair, Chad Bradford(2.62,14th hold) & rookie Jim Johnson(1.99,16th hold) looked outstanding in the 7th and 8th innings. Baltimore got some needed breathing room when Scott hit his 2nd homer in the 8th with a runner on for the final runs of the game. All Star closer George Sherrill(3.98) struck out Maglio Ordonez to end the game and earn his 29th save.
