Game 75 Recap-
The Baltimore Orioles jumped out to a 7-1 lead and need it, winning 7-5 in an interleague series opener vs the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field. The win stopped the Cubs 14 game home winning streak and saw history as Orioles 2b Brian Roberts reached 1000 hits.
Baltimore RH Jeremy Guthrie pitched great vs a very good lineup that has been hitting the heck out of the ball at home. The youngster won his 4th game(4-7,3.64) going 6 innings, allowing 7 hits and 4 runs with 1 walk and 2 ks. The team scored all of its runs in the 4th(2), 5th(2) & 6th(3). The big blows were from LF Luke Scott(2 run triple) & RF Nick Markakis(2 seperate rbi hits).
Cubs LH Sean Marshall(0-1,5.40) did not last 5 innings, over 4 2/3 he allowed 7 hits and 4 runs with 7 Ks and 1 walk. Rh Michael Wuertz(1-1,12.48) followed and gave up the final 3 runs. Red hot CF Jim Edmonds(#6) had a 3 run shot in the 7th and super rook RF Kosuke Fukudome also added a solo shot.
Baltimore closer LH George Sherrill(2-2,3.09) allowed the Cubs to load the bases in the 9th but struck out the side for his 26th save. This man has a been a HUGE addition to the club and has the right approach for his job,”It makes it a little more stressful, but I don’t get nervous out there,” Sherrill said. “I get nervous when it’s someone else, not me.”
