Star of the Game-
The Baltimore Orioles used a 8 run 5th inning and 8 + innings of great work by LH SP Garrett Olson(8-5,5.67) to defeat the Seattle Mariners, 10-3 Friday night at Safeco Field. The club had 16 hits and chased veteran LH SP Jarrod Washburn(5-10,4.77) in the explosive 5th.
Baltimore RF Nick Markakis drove in the 1st run of the game with a double,scoring CF Adam Jones. 3b Melvin Mora’s rbi single started a huge 8 run outburst in the 5th.C Ramon Hernandez(double) & LF Jay(3 run triple) Payton followed with extra base hits. SS Juan Castro and Jones(2 run) followed with rbi singles.Washburn was done after 4 2/3 innings, 9 hits allowed with 6 runs,4 walks and 2 Ks.
After 1b Kevin Millar singled to drive in a run in the 8th to make it 10-0, Olson took the mound in the 9th looking for the complete game. After 3 of the 1st 4 hitters reached, Baltimore manager Dave Trembley went to RH Lance Cormier(1-3,4.43).The Ms rallied with some cheapies and infield hits , as well as run scoring outs to score 5. Cormier sucked it up and got 3b Adrian Beltre for the game final out.
Star of the Game-
Olson- Strong for the 2nd consecutive start, vital 8 1/3 innings to a team that has been starved for innings from starting pitchers!
Orioles Notes-
DH Aubrey Huff, one of the clubs stronger hitters, left the game in the 5th with a head injury….. Markakis had 3 hits, while Roberts, Jones, Millar and Payton added 2 apiece..Markakis was also caught stealing for the 6th time this season
