Game 104 Recap-
The Baltimore Orioles got a great start from LH Garrett Olson & 3 hits from backup C Guillermo Quiroz, helping them beat the Los Angeles Angels,5-2 Sunday at Camden Yards. The win avoids a series sweep by the Angels but more importantly, breaks a long losing streak on Sunday games since winning April 6th, going back 15 games.”No questions about Sunday. It’s done, it’s dead, put it to rest.” Baltimore Manager Dave Trembley said.
The Orioles jumped on Angels starter,RH Ervin Santana(11-5,3.57) early and had a 4-0 lead by the 3rd inning. RF Nick Markakis(double), Luke Scott(bases loaded hit by a pitch) and Quiroz(2 run single) collected rbi. The Angels scored single runs in the 4th(Vlad Guerrero ground out) and 7th(PH single by Garrett Anderson) for their runs. Quiroz added another rbi single in the 6th for the 5th Baltimore run.
Olson had been struggling over his last 4 starts(4.76 era to 6.11) but was tough Sunday. “I guess you could say I had a pretty bad streak there,” the rookie said. “The biggest thing for me is to make my pitches. You can’t afford to miss your spots that often or you’ll get in trouble.” He was excellent over 6 innings vs the best team in MLB. He allowed 7 hits and 2 runs with 2 walks and a K. RHs Chad Bradford(16th hold,2.56 era) and Jim Johnson(18th,1.88) pitched strong 7th and 8th innings to support the young lefty. All Star closer George Sherrill pitched a clean 9th for his 30th save.
